about us

the inspiration

The story begins with our founder, Jayashree Birje, being bored.

founder of crimailed

She has been a crime fiction fan since the age of 11.  The first fiction book she read was 'A to Z Mysteries" by Ron Roy. After reading hundreds of novels in her childhood, the stories soon started to become clique, and predictable.

As a teenager she made treasure hunts and invented murder mystery games like JJ's Court.

She also tried escape rooms. They seemed fun only once. Solving numeric locks with no element of crime-solving seemed boring to her.

She also loves watching crime thrillers. If you are reading this page, you have been a CID fan, haven't you? And you definitely binged on 'Family Man.' Well, so did our founder! But good crime thrillers are hard to come by. Sometimes you can easily guess who did the murder or doze off in middle of watching it.

So, she shifted to video and board games. They ended up being restrictive in actions the user can take or ended up being hidden objects game!

In short, she was running out of options to appease the mystery fanatic in her. She wanted brain food: something mentally stimulating, and fun. What if she could roleplay a police detective? A way in which she can enjoy with her like-minded friends and family.

That's when in 2021, she came across the concept of 'mystery case files' and realized why not India have its own 'mystery case files?'

That's how Crimailed™ was born.

But it still had a long way to go.

the mission

Crimailed was formed with the dream to become the one-stop destination for the murder mystery fanatics.

We want to give you quality experiences, where you forget that you do anything apart from solving mysteries. We want to give you a chance to bond with yourself and with your close ones, over the shared interest of murder mysteries. We want you to experience the mental satisfaction you get when you find that your gut instinct was right the whole time, and you just found the murderer before anyone else!

the journey

Since 2021, the first case file 'Who Killed Gagan' has gone through a lot of changes.

In the year 2021, our founder had pitched Crimailed™ to win the big business idea competition at Atlas Skilltech University (formerly ISME). Back then, Crimailed was merely a pitch deck.

developing the game

From 2022, it took about one year to create the murder mystery file "Who Killed Gagan".

A key challenge was to make clues in such a way that they are subtle and yet point at the murderer. Or make clues in such a way that future information highlights the current information in a different perspective. Further, we had to ensure that the realistic crime-solving experience is maintained throughout. Making visual puzzles or codes wasn't the way out.

In 2023, Crimailed brand was officially established with the launch of our website. Our first case file, "Who Killed Gagan was ready, three beta testing rounds were conducted. The first game tester was a woman whom our founder had just met at an offline meetup. She only had committed only one hour to play the game but ended up cancelling her schedule to complete the game ~ ended up staying for three hours! That gave our founder confidence to continue ahead with this venture.

Since April 2024, Crimailed has been open for players from Mumbai! The players have enjoyed realistic crime-solving experience, the mental stimulation, the storyline, the dialogues, the characters, and also had fun discussing and debating the plotline with their friends and family. It fills our heart with joy that people are finding a way to connect offline with the help of Crimailed.

After many challenges and roadblocks, Crimailed, India's own first murder mystery case files brand is now available for India-wide shipping from January 2025. As we enter e-commerce model, we are happy to announce that our community-based model is going to continue because connecting detectives offline is our core emotion and aligns with our vision for Crimailed.
